VS Summer Schedule Update

From 30MAR14, VS will be operating a new joint venture summer schedule, as they align our transatlantic services with Delta Air Lines in order to offer more flight choices for travelers on both sides of the Atlantic. Delta will also be joining them in their home at London Heathrow, Terminal 3 for London to New York-JFK, Boston and Seattle flights.

Their Newark to London route will now offer a morning service in addition to an earlier evening service. The morning service means passengers can be in central London for the start of the working day. The VS1 London to Newark service will move from a late afternoon departure to a morning departure so passengers can arrive in New Jersey same day.

This service is part of nine daily flights between New York and London Heathrow as previously announced, with an even spread of flights to and from JFK and two conveniently timed departures to and from Newark. It’s easy to remember that flights leave either on the hour or half hour from JFK.

Our Boston to Heathrow service has also been retimed and will depart two hours later. Together with Delta this offers customers more flexibility and improves connections for our BOM, JNB and CPT routes.

This exciting news will not only mean better connections, it will help to streamline the airport experience and they therefore hope to fully colocate all of their Heathrow services going forward.

QR Frequent Flyer Update

Qatar Airways and American Airlines have announced an expanded relationship to include a reciprocal frequent flyer program agreement, providing customers more opportunities to earn and redeem miles when traveling across each airline’s global network.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club members can now earn and redeem Qmiles and American Airlines AAdvantage members can earn and redeem AAdvantage miles when traveling on flights operated by the other carrier. This agreement is in addition to the codeshare relationship currently in place, which includes joint marketing on 170 unique routes throughout the United States, Europe and the Middle East.

"This agreement represents the natural evolution of Qatar Airways’ strong codeshare relationship with American Airlines,” said Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways. “We are very pleased to begin this frequent flyer partnership and further enhance the travel experience for customers of both carriers."

“For members of the AAdvantage program, the ability to earn and redeem miles on flights operated by American’s partner airlines is one of the most important customer benefits the program offers,” said Suzanne Rubin, American’s President – AAdvantage Loyalty Program. “This expansion of our relationship with Qatar is another example of how American is focused on strengthening its global network through building strategic partnerships with other airlines, all while meeting the needs of our most loyal customers.”

I-94 Arrival form

U.S. scraps Form I-94 for foreign visitors

By Bill Poling
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said it is doing away with another piece of paper to streamline the admission process for arriving foreign visitors.

The plan, effective 30 days after publication in the Federal Register, will eliminate the need for certain foreign visitors arriving by air or sea to fill out the Form I-94 Arrival/Departure Record.

The form is usually filled out en route, but CBP said it requests information from passengers that can now be accessed electronically, eliminating the need for the paper version. The form is usually required of those traveling on a visa. (Visitors from Visa Waiver Program countries are not required to use it.)

Because the form is sometimes used by visitors as evidence that they have been lawfully admitted to the U.S., CBP is setting up a website where visitors can obtain a paper record if necessary to verify alien registration, immigration status and employment authorization.

"The process will facilitate security and travel while saving CBP an estimated $15.5 million a year," CBP Deputy Commissioner David Aguilar said in a statement.
